The Jewish year is calculated by adding the generations since the birth of Adom HaRishon (September 9, 3701 B.C.E.), this year equaling 5763 years. Yet, every biology textbook notes that the universe is approximately 15 billion years old and the Earth nearly 5 billion! How does Orthodox Jewry deal with this apparent discrepancy?
