Description

7 reasons that a Sephardi can make hamotzei on egg challah if his hosts only serves egg challah for lechem mishna: 1) According to some rishonim, egg challah is bread since they explained pat haba bkisnin as crackers or filled doughs. 2) Egg challah is usually eaten as a meal so it is hamotzei (Rabbi Shmuel Pinchasi, Rabbi Mordechai Lebhar), 3) According to Rama, egg challah is usually hamotzei because it isn’t the ikar taste. 4) Eggs might not be the same as fruit juice (Halacha Brurah). 5) If he eats 2 kezayitim some say that’s keviyut seuda nowadays (Birkat Hashem). 6) If he’s full on the rest of the meal that’s keviyut seuda for Magen Avraham, Mishna Brurah, Igrot Moshe, and Rav Eliyahu Ben Chaim. 7) Shabbat is koveh for pat haba bkisnin (Shibolei Haleket, Birkei Yosef 444 quoting Radvaz). Conclusion: Safek safeka and one factor is deoritta since he’s full is enough to make a bracha. Vezot Habracha quotes the Rav Mordechai Eliyahu that in this case he can make hamotzei. Rav Ovadia argues. But according to all of these factors there’s what to rely upon Rabbi Eliyahu.
