Description

Interpretations, traditions, enactments and customs all play a role in how Jewish law came to be practiced as it is today. This mini-course introduces the stages of development of Jewish law. It focuses on the locations, major works and legal decision makers of each period as well as the Sephardic / Ashkenazi divergence. Interesting in its own right, this mini-course also acts as an introduction to next year’s year-course Halakhah B’Shanah, which will systematically explore the complex legal theory that stands at the core of Jewish legal tradition.
