Description

If the nearest city has no Beit Din, and we calculate the nearest city that has a Beit Din, is that far off city bringing the Egla Arufa despite the fact that we do not have an "Ir HaKrova"? Or is there an absolute requirement of an "Ir HaKrova", and the far off city with a Beit Din becomes - Halachikly - the "Ir HaKrova"? This issue lies at the heart of the controversy between the Rambam & the Tos' Rid as to whether a city which is Rechoka but Gedola, i.e. the city which has a greater population than the closest city, bring the Egla Arufa. According to the Rambam the Beit Din city breaks new ground & establishes that "krova" is not an absolute requirement. But what does the Rambam do with the Halacha of "medida" in the Beit Din case?
