Description

We will study the sugya in Masechet Yoma 84b: regarding the deris that fell upon a person in a location where most of the people there are non-Jews and we cannot identify the individual who is buried under the debris, do we violate the Shabbos despite the Rov? Does Pikuach Nefesh undermine the universal principle of Rov? The sugya differentiates between the original location and a second one. In the original Chatzer we apply the principle of Kavua since all the people are stationary in their chatzer. In this shiur we will try to analyze the Machlokes Rashi & the Rosh in terms of which Rov is suspended in Pikuach Nefesh and why. We will try to define the nature of Kavua and two different categories of Rov.
